Gay Marriage

Uh, no, this is not a post about Gay Marriage, just thought I should check if there's a crowd out there attracted by the title.

Now then, where was I?
Oh, yeah:

Always two steps ahead in the field of entertainment,U.S.A. always knows how to spice things up amidst all these saccharine festivities.
FOX News apparently decided there's a war against Christianity because some shopkeepers who don't want to scare away non-Christian customers greet you with "Happy Holidays" and decorate a "Season Tree".
"Politically correct" hypocrites against Christian Jihadists who don't even know they are actually defending Pagan customs?
Persons who don't know what they are talking about against persons who dare not talk about it?
Pass me the Pop Corn!

Oh, and by the way:

If the "Season Spirit" isn't something that is forced down our throats, why do its initials spell "S.S."?

Cover without Covers

Third issue of the "Galera" magazine just out.You can visit the site for more information, but i just HAD to post this superb cover by G.Kalaizis: The caption reads something like "foreigners get out",but, frankly, the image speaks louder than words.Cartooning at its best.

p.s.the signature is accompanied by a fake web adress this cartoonist always uses to enhance the message of the cartoon. This one reads "www france or franco?".

Ghost in the machine

Two more pics from the concert mentioned in the previous post.Illuminated notes ascending from the stage? The Scully part of the brain will be quick to point out my complete lack of knowledge about shutter speed and other obscure photographic functions, but just for this once i 'll buy the "I Want to Believe" Μulder t-shirt.

Theodoros Derveniotis (1922-2004)

It's one year to the day.
This memorial post is not a grieving post.
I was grieving for my father just before he died:he was a fighter all his years, his very life shaped by his WWII experience when he joined the resistance at a very young age.
But the illness was the one enemy he could not defeat.
But apart from the loss, I couldn't feel sorry: he made such a good use of his life that the end found him triumphant, with no loose ends, debts unpaid, things not done and challenges not met.
The last adversary he fought, was the same people who had become rich from his work and suddenly one day decided they didn't need him anymore:The Greek Record Companies (did I mention he was a musician?) had entered a new phase, almost all of them merging with some big international label. Quick and enormous profits were needed to meet the directives set by the Mother Company, which resulted to the mass production of assembly-made "pop idols".
Not the way my dad functioned, needless to say.
Nevertheless, he continued to sell big numbers. The last record he made, became gold in very short time-it proved to be his last, though: the decision was made, and a whole generation of song creators found the doors slammed shut, my father included.
But he had the last word:
Some years before the illness overcame him, the Greek music magazine "Difono" organized a concert to honor his work: Up to the last day before the concert, everyone was nervous: what if it was true that this kind of songs were truly out of fashion-"untrendy" and forgotten?
A huge theater jam-packed and ecstatic proved they weren't.

That's how I want everyone to remember my dad: proud and uncompromising, fighting against impossible odds for what he knew was the right thing-and always in the end

emerging

triumphant.

No sarcasm today, sorry!

This illustration was used in a piece about "beauty". Thought it would be an appropriate way to say "have a nice weekend, everyone"!
